Gesher Jewish Day School educates children kindergarten through the eighth Grade, providing a rigorous and innovative academic program implemented by caring, dedicated, and talented faculty. The dual curriculum of Jewish and General Studies enables students to develop a confident sense of self, love of Judaism, and solid academic skills that will serve them well as they transition to high school and beyond.
Our children love to learn and it shows. Standardized testing results demonstrate that students at Gesher consistently out-perform their peers in public and private schools, both nationally and locally.
Kindergarten at Gesher is a full day program, designed to nurture your child's emerging academic and social skills in preparation for their elementary years. With the goal of encouraging individual curiousity while developing awareness of others, we work to create a highly academic environment and age appropriate classroom where continual learning through active play and constructive activities is constant throughout the day. Students reach important milestones in both reading and Hebrew language acquisition as their year progresses. Our kindergarten classroom, consistent with Jewish values, fosters a cohesiveness based on our belief that each member has something special to offer.
Our Elementary School (Grades K-5) advances the cognitive, social, and spiritual development of each child, in a nurturing and innovative learning environment. In our dual curriculum, approximately 60% of classroom instructional time is devoted to General Studies and 40% to Jewish learning and Hebrew language. Individual learning needs are accomodated through differentiated instruction and by creating small learning groups within the classroom. Students have weekly lessons in Art, Music, Computers, and Library. Physical Education is taught twice weekly as is Science Lab. The values of kavod (respect) and tikkun olam (repairing the world) guide our school day. The classroom calendar is filled with field trips and special events that bring learning to life.
Our Middle School (Grades 6-8) teaching team works with Gesher parents to help them raise happy, healthy, productive young adults who are able to make a meaningful, thoughtful contribution to the world. Academic rigor across the curriculum is our standard, preparing students to be successful in any high school environment. Gesher students graduate the 8th grade with high school credits for Spanish 1, Algebra 1 and/or Geometry 1. Our program includes advisory groups, after-school competitive athletics, community service, elective choices, interdisciplinary studies, Jewish life beyond bar and bat mitzvah, student council leadership, and class trips to the Teva Learning Center (three nights), New York City (overnight), and the highly anticipated 8th grade trip to Israel (two weeks). The Middle School years come to a close with a moving graduation ceremony that celebrates the whole child, highlighting the extraordinary growth of each of our students.
