Alumni In the Spotlight!

Samantha L. (Gesher Grad, '07)

Samantha L. was chosen to be on the 66th International Board of the B'nai B'rith Girls as International Sh'licha. The Sh'licha is in charge of Judaism, Community Service, and Social action for BBYO.  Samantha will be working very closely with all 42 regions, and on an International level, she will work on managing BBYO’s international community service initiatives and bold new ways to shape BBYO's Jewish identity while remaining pluralistic.

In addition, Samantha will coordinate a three week summer program with roughly 200 teens called Kallah, which is all about Jewish identity.  In February, she will travel to LA for International Convention, where there will be a one day service project.

Josh G. (Gesher Grad, '08)

Josh is running for the one student seat on the Fairfax County Public School Board. Stay tuned for results in February!

Rachel C. (Gesher Grad, '08)

At the age of 16, Rachel became a fully certified EMT in the state of Maryland. She volunteers with the Rockville Fire/EMS Department!   Rachel loves riding the "ambo", and directing newer recruits.   She actually loves sleeping at the fire station, waking up to alarms, putting on gear, and charging out into the night in the "ambo".  Rachel also plans to take the fire-fighter training class next spring, and become a certified fire-fighter.

Thinking ahead to college, she has an interest in both marine biology and criminal justice.  Last summer, Rachel spent 3 weeks at a Johns Hopkins CTY Whales and Estuary Systems course.  They sailed up the east coast to Massachusetts on a 104' schooner searching for, finding, and studying whales.  It was a phenomenal experience and further inspired Rachel to consider marine biology as a career.

Clearly this is a Gesher grad "on the go".
