Curriculum Overview
Gesher's founders sought an educational environment which inspired students to learn and grow. Our comprehensive curriculum encourages the students to follow our founders to be self-directed and self-motivated.
Gesher is very proud of the high quality educational program it provides. Gesher was recognized by the Virginia Association for Independent Schools (VAIS) for "crafting an educational program that is learner-centered, thoroughly engaging, and culturally integrated." (April 23, 2003). Gesher students continually score well above the national norm on Achievement Tests. Class scores range between 79-96 percentiles. Graduates consistently qualify for the Gifted and Talented International Baccalaureate Programs. In 2003, nineteen of 138 eligible students were invited to participate in the Johns Hopkins Search for Talented youth, a program for highly talented students. Four students in the sixth grade class of 2000-01 attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a magnet school within Fairfax County. Gesher compares well with the local public schools, particularly Fairfax County, which is considered one of the best public school systems in the nation. Gesher Graduates attend prestigious universities including Stanford, Yale, Naval Academy, University of Virginia, and Virginia Poly-technical Institute.
Special subjects include Music, Art, Computer, Science Labs, Library, and PE. Grades 6-8 have elective courses including yearbook, newspaper, and Student Council as well.
Gesher is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS). The academic program is strong and on par with strong private schools and the best public schools in the nation.
One of Gesher’s greatest strengths is its commitment to respect each of our student’s learning styles. We offer enrichment and resource programs, often individualized, for the student who either needs or desires additional assistance. Our commitment is best demonstrated in the classroom, where children of various abilities work and learn together.
