Dear Gesher Parents, Faculty, and Staff
It now appears inevitable that the Washington DC Metropolitan area is due for more snowfall this winter than it has seen in over 30 years. We have already experienced five days of school closings and are poised to possibly experience more.
Therefore, given the unique circumstances and the potential for protracted closures, beginning on Monday, February 8, we at Gesher Jewish Day School will be instituting a temporary departure from our standard policy of automatically following Fairfax County Public Schools on school closure and delayed opening decisions.
On a trial basis during the weeks of February 8-12 and February 15-19, Gesher Jewish Day School will make its own school closing and delayed opening determinations. All efforts will be made to make closing or delayed opening announcements before 5:30 a.m. Such announcements will be made on the school website, http://www.gesher-jds.org, and via the following media outlets and their websites:
At the end of the trial your feedback on the new method of determining school closure and delay will be much appreciated.
The safety of our students and their families, as well as our faculty and staff, as they travel is always paramount in any decision-making process. Even when school is open individuals must make their own assessments and determinations of road conditions in their area and act accordingly to assure their safety. We thank you in advance for your cooperation during the two-week trial of this policy.
Stay warm and dry! Shabbat Shalom!
Dr. Zvi Schoenburg
