Melnick After-School Program (MAP)

The Melnick After-School Program (MAP) will provide Gesher elementary students (Grades K-5) with three seasons of academic enrichment. MAP was created through a generous gift by Amy Melnick and Jeff Scharf in memory of Amy’s parents, Jack and Marcia Melnick. MAP sessions begin at 3:30 p.m. and end at 4:45 p.m.

Fall 2007

The Melnick After-school Program (MAP) will offer the following classes for the fall session. You will see that there is something for everyone! Classes will run on Tuesdays or Thursdays from mid-October to mid December. Schedule TBA.
For K-5 we plan to offer:
  • Creative Kids - A literature-based drama program that teaches acting skills and teamwork. The teacher leads the group in exploring and enacting children's stories. Then students get to create and act out their own.
  • Homework Help - A Gesher teacher is available to assist with homework during MAP time.

For K-2 we hope to have:
  • Puppet Creations - If you love puppets, this is the class for you! You will make different kinds of puppets each week.
  • Computer Creations - Have fun in the computer lab with Ms. Milstein.
  • Story Fun - Listen to stories form our tradition followed by crafts and games. Fun with Music - Do you love to sing? Come join Hazzan Rabinowitz for a fun hour singing songs from our tradition.

For grades 2-5 there should be:
  • Electronics - Using wires, batteries, and switches you will learn about electronics and current flow. Then create your own security system to take home.

Finally, for grades 3-5 look for:
  • Crazy Dolls - Want to make a crazy sock animal? Just bring an old pair of socks, a lot of patience and your imagination. Mrs. Rosenblatt will help you turn those socks into a wild and crazy stuffed animal.
  • Math Olympiad - This math club will explore math topics, critical thinking strategies, math puzzles and games with Mr. England
  • Junior Jazzercise - The middle schoolers are doing it and so are some of your teachers. Now it's your turn to have fun dancing to the latest hits.
  • Juggling - Learn to juggle from a professional!
  • Mountain Biking - Learn to mountain bike! We will ride bikes in our woods, and learn basic bike maintenance. You must have your own bike.
