Adult Jewish Learning

Melton Gesher 2018-19

You are about to embark on an exciting adventure as you join students from over 45 sites in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand that are currently part of the Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning network.  Dedicated to providing a solid foundation of adult Jewish education to serious, sophisticated students, the Florence Melton School has proven to be an experience that changes lives and shapes communities. Throughout its history the Florence Melton School has helped over 40,000 adults achieve Jewish literacy in a comfortable, pluralist environment. It has inspired them to become dedicated Jewish learners—to explore and to experience, to challenge and to define what Judaism means for themselves and their children. We look forward to a wonderful year of Jewish learning!

Jews in America: Insiders and Outsiders

This 10 week course provides students with the opportunity to consider the challenges of Jewish acculturation to American life, and the sacrifices as well as the contributions that have been made over the past 200 years. Lessons will explore education, the Three Generation Hypothesis, Anti-Semitism and the Holocaust, Zionism and the State of Israel, the Civil Rights Movement, and other issues that address American and Jewish culture and identity.
